Borg Names
The Borg don’t really have names. They have designations. Once assimilated, a drone becomes something like Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01: its number, the size of its group, its role and its unit. Only a few drones who break free, like Hugh (“Third of Five”) or Seven of Nine, ever become individuals the audience learns to know.

Names of the Collective’s hardware and home turf make great names for ships, servers or a gaming clan.

Canon designations follow a pattern: [number] of [group size], [primary/secondary/tertiary] Adjunct of [Unimatrix/Trimatrix + number]. The first number can never exceed the second. Here are ready-made ones, or mix your own.

How to make a convincing Borg name
- Follow the canon pattern: number, group size, rank (primary, secondary or tertiary adjunct) and unimatrix or trimatrix number.
- Keep the first number less than or equal to the second. “Nine of Seven” breaks the logic of the designation.
- For an ex-drone character, give them both a designation and a name they reclaim later, like Seven of Nine and Annika.
- Pick a species of origin for backstory. Canon drones came from Klingons, Bolians, Brunali and many other species.
- Avoid reusing a famous canon designation (Seven of Nine, Third of Five) for an original character, or fans will assume it’s that person.
